Carried it deep inside each day,
waiting for the courage that never came.
So on you went without a clue,
that these adoring eyes they longed for you (yeah).
Smiling at the young woman stood in front of him, couldn’t help but lean forward and pull her into his arms for a hug. A hug that he’d been craving for the past ten years. He knew he’d missed her all these years but he hadn’t realised just how much until this moment. He pulled her out of his embrace and held her at arms length while he studied her face.
“I’ve missed you, ” He smiled, wrapping his arms around her again.
laughed at him, as he hugged her tightly, “I’ve missed you too ” She whispered, loving the feeling of being in his arms again.
“What are you doing back? Are you home for good?” asked, reluctantly ending their hug.
“I’m thinking about it actually, as much I loved living in California I really missed my family” She told him.
They stood in the middle of the street, receiving complaints from people having to step round them. “Wanna go grab a coffee or something? My treat” smiled at her, praying for her answer to be yes. thought for a second and looked at her watch, she was supposed to be meeting someone in an hour but the offer from was far too good to pass on. “I’d love to” She finally answered as they linked arms and walked to the nearest coffee shop.

All the feelings he’d buried deep inside of him seemed to rush to the surface as he sat opposite her in the coffee shop. He thought he’d finally gotten over her, the way he felt whenever he was around her but just seeing her smile made his heart skip a beat. He still loved her, all these years apart had done nothing to weaken his feelings for her. In fact, his feelings were even stronger for her, if that was possible.
They sat chatting and catching up on what they’d both been up to over the years they hadn’t seen each other. “I just need to make a quick phone call, I wont be a sec. I’m supposed to be somewhere in like half an hour but I’m just gonna phone and cancel” smiled at as she walked away from their table in the corner of the coffee shop.
watched her from a distance as she spoke into her phone, he smiled to himself as he noticed that she hadn’t changed much since the last time he’d seen her. He had no idea why he’d never been able to tell her how he felt about her. Instead he’d admired her from afar, remaining her friend but longing to be so much more. He was so lost in his dream world that he didn’t notice her finish her phone call and walk back towards him. smiled to herself as she sat down opposite him, deciding not to mention his old habit of slipping into a day dream.

Over the years he’d tried to subtly show her how he felt about her but she’d never noticed that he felt more for her than friendship and then it was too late for him to tell her. She was leaving for California, to study, it had always been her dream to go to a school out there and she finally got accepted to a school out there. He decided to remain silent about his feelings for her, she was leaving and he was fulfilling his dream of starting a band up. Neither one of them would have time for a relationship, assuming she returned his feelings.
and left the coffee shop and he walked her back home to her parents house, they chatted about everything and nothing. It was almost as if they’d never been apart from each other.
“So what plans did you have today that you had to cancel?” asked as they slowly walked down the street where both their parents still lived.
“Promise not to laugh?” She asked, turning her head to look at him.
“Not a chance” laughed, “Whenever someone says ‘promise not to laugh’ it always means it’s something you just have to laugh at”
laughed at him and nodded her head in agreement, “I guess you’re right” “So come on, what did you cancel?” He asked again. “A date…” said with a laugh. smiled at her, “Well I’m flattered, do you regret it?” He asked taking a quick glance at her. shook her head and smiled at him, “Not one bit. I much prefer your company, than having to suffer through an awkward first date” “That’s true, a lot of women would give their right leg to spend the afternoon with me” smiled as she gently nudged into him. “Nice to see fame hasn’t changed you” She laughed as he wrapped his arm around her shoulder and they carried on walking.

“Are you staying at your parents place?” asked as they arrived at her parent’s house.
shook his head as he walked up to the front door with her, “Nope, I’ve got my own house here. It’s not too far actually, maybe you’d like to visit me tomorrow?” asked, with a nervous smile.
“I’d like that” She nodded her head, leaning in to give him a hug, “I really did miss you, ”
hugged her tightly wishing he could keep her in his arms like this forever, “I missed you too” He whispered, closing his eyes as he savoured how easily they seemed to mould into each other.
“See you tomorrow then?” She questioned him.
“Absolutely” nodded his head and smiled widely at her, “Better go and say hello to the folks while I’m here”
“Bye ” smiled, leaning forward and softly kissing his cheek.
“Bye ” smiled, watching her go inside and feeling like a teenager again.
watched until she’d gone inside the house and let out a heavy sigh, he’d only spent a few hours with her and he missed her already. His heart felt heavy and he needed to see her. Shaking his head, he tried to get rid of his thoughts. She’d only left him 30 seconds ago and he already missed her. He knew he was being ridiculous, how could he feel so strongly about her after all these years apart. He pushed open the front door to his parents house and his mother immediately came rushing up to him.
“Was that I just saw?” asked, smiling from ear to ear.
laughed and nodded his head, “Yeah I just bumped into her in town and we got talking”
“Did you tell her?” She asked her son.
frowned at her, “Did I tell her what?”
laughed and walked away from her son, “Tell her son, you two were meant for each other”
The reality: the hope still holds,
the dreams run wild in the night time too.

The next day, just as had promised he showed around his house, she stared around the dance studio he had in his garage and marvelled at everything around her. She started talking to and when he didn’t answer she turned to see him staring out of one of the windows.
“Not lost that habit then?” smiled, pushing him slightly.
“Huh?” asked, snapping himself back to reality.
“You and your habit of zoning out” She laughed at him, “You still do it then?”
blushed and nodded his head a little, “I can’t help it, sorry” He said with a shrug of his shoulders.
“Don’t apologise, it’s a cute habit” She laughed at him, “In fact I think it might’ve rubbed off on me a little”
laughed at her, “And do you get teased about it?” he asked with a warm smile.
nodded her head and laughed along with , “I almost got kicked off my course in the first year because of it”
laughed at her and shook his head, “That’s a shame…” He said with a sigh. “A shame? Why’s that?” She frowned at him. laughed nervously at her, “Well if you’d been kicked out then you would’ve come home and I wouldn’t have missed you as much as I did” He replied simply. “True but then you would’ve left me when you started your little band up” teased him. shook his head, “No, I would’ve brought you with me and given you a job” rolled her eyes at him, “What like your personal slave. I think I’ll pass” “Slave is such a harsh word, I prefer to call it…” pretended to think for a moment, “…my personal assistant” laughed loudly at him, “Dream on ”

had asked to stay with him for dinner later that night, as he was planning on ordering a take out. agreed with very little persuasion from , although he couldn’t resist teasing her about her cancelled date from the night before.
“So how’s and ?” asked as they sat outside in ’s back garden, enjoying the last rays of sunshine.
“Didn’t read up on us over the years then?” asked, raising one eyebrow at her. shook her head, “Not a chance, I had way better things to do than follow your music career” She teased him, “Actually I used to look you up on the net” “So you’ve heard our music then?” asked, thinking back to how many songs they’d sang over the years and how many that made him think of her. “Yeah, of course I have. Just because we lost contact doesn’t mean I forgot about you” smiled at him shyly. “I thought about you all the time too, I always wished you could come with me and share the whole experience with me” let out a small sigh, “But you’re back now” “Hopefully for good” said with a small nod of her head.
A comfortable silence fell over them both as they sat and watched the sun slowly set, turning the whole sky a vibrant orange. gazed at and smiled to himself, she’d always loved sunsets and would make him stop whatever he was doing and just watch the beautiful sight before him. Of course most of the time it wasn’t the sunset that watched, but her. Every time he’d seen a sunset it always reminded him of her and helped him to miss her a little less.
had ordered them dinner and after they’d eaten, they sat in the living room and continued chatting about their childhood and the things they’d missed during their time apart. “More wine?” asked tipping the last few drop of wine into his glass. shook her head as she sipped on her still full glass, “I’ll never walk home if I have anymore” She replied, wine always went straight to her head. “Stay here then” blurted out while smirked at him, “I mean, in the guest room” “I guess I could” smiled at the blush rising in ’s cheeks. “That means you can have more wine” replied, standing up and walking into the kitchen to fetch another bottle.

Returning with a second bottle he turned the stereo on as he walked past and topped up both their glasses. “So how long are you home for?” asked as they both relaxed on the sofa sitting as close to each other as they could. “About 3 weeks” replied with a small sigh, “Then it’s back to work” “Cheer up, you’ve got an amazing job” tried to comfort him. “It’s not about the job though” sighed again, “Everyone around me is settled down and loved up and I’m still all alone” “, you’re in one of the biggest boy bands in the world. I really doubt you struggle finding dates” laughed at him. “I don’t want to date just anyone though, I know who I want but I don’t think it’ll ever happen” said softly, hoping that maybe she’d finally realise it was her he was talking about.
frowned, she had no idea felt so strongly about someone and any hopes she’d clung onto of telling him how she felt about him were gone now, “Have you told her?” She asked him as he shook his head, “You should, I really doubt she’d turn you down” “She’s not like most girls, I’ve known her for most of my life and I don’t want to lose her friendship” explained, still hoping she’d know who he was talking about.
took a large gulp of her wine and sat back on the sofa, “Just tell her. What have you got to lose?” She asked, while shrugged his shoulders. “What would you do if you were in my position?” suddenly asked. “I’m really not the best at advice about his kind of thing, ” laughed nervously, “I’m sort of in the same situation” “Really?” asked, sitting forward and turning his body to the side to face her, “And what did you do about it? Did you tell him?”
shook her head sadly, “Nope, I was never brave enough to tell him” “You love him?” asked, seeing the same look in her eyes that he knew was in his own when he thought about her. nodded, “I’ve loved him for years but we kinda lost touch when I moved and I haven’t spoken to him since”

felt his heart sink into the pit of his stomach at her words but he could see she was hurting, “We’re pathetic aren’t we?” He laughed shaking his head, “Both in love and too chicken to do anything about it” “And both miserable…” added as nodded in agreement. leant forward and picked up his glass of wine, drinking it all in one go he placed the empty glass back on the table and stared at . He could already feel the effects of the wine, although he wasn’t drunk but it gave him the Dutch courage he needed. “ …can I tell you something?” asked, looking straight into her eyes.
nodded her head as inched closer to her, he lifted one hand and ran it softly down her cheek as his drew his lips closer to hers. Expecting her to pull away he was surprised when she stayed put, feeling her breath on his face he closed the distance between them and gently brushed his lips against hers. He pulled back and stared at her expectantly, waiting for the rejection he knew was coming. She surprised him when he felt her hand hook round the back of his neck and her soft warm lips on his again.
This time the kiss was firmer as she held him place, one hand behind his head and the other softly caressing his face. She felt his tongue begging for access into her own mouth and granted it as he pushed her backwards on the sofa. His hands found their way into her hair as he pressed his body down onto hers as the kiss became more urgent. Finally they broke away from the kiss and rested his forehead against hers as they both breathed heavily.
“It’s you …it’s always been you” whispered, running his hand down the side of her face and brushing her hair back.
smiled up at him as their breathing remained slightly laboured, “I’ve loved you for as long as I can remember” She said quietly. captured her lips with his again, smiling into the kiss as the sound of the song playing in the background reached his ears.
